April’s Results

30th April

Last day of the month and whilst there have been a few lean days, overall our results have been strong. Just look at yesterdays. 19 winners over the race cards including 10/1 and 7/1 plus loads of placed efforts - best at 16/1 and a 12/1 second. Fingers crossed we end the month strongly. SAW was an official non selection day as the selection just by 0.5% failed to hit the magical 98% but 2 winners from 3 still rolled in and if it wasnt for a Jockey cock up, Brown Pete should have made it 3 from 3.

Well, today has been tough. Having to single handed deal with SAW link problems and faced with the plethora of non runners and going changes its been taxing to say the list. Just be a little careful. Good morning! Well, as blip days go, yesterday wasnt too shabby for the Service as a whole and we blew our main rival out of the water!  Put Tara Point in your notebooks. Paul Nicholls said he was only running her to get fit and she hosed up by over 8 lengths. A fully wound up TP looks a decent prospect. Hurdles will be the next step in my view and she might also make a decent chaser in time.

Happy St Georges Day! A reasonable day for the Ratings and with 3 2nds on SAW, i was right to make it a no selection day! Very disappointed with the way our BBOTD ran. It was way ahead on ratings in that race and should by all accounts have won snuggly. To see it fail to get its head in front was a little upsetting - it certainly was far better rated than the winner and the market was sweet on the selection all day. I was very grumpy after the race and watching it back a number of times, failed to improve my mood!

Today we have 5 meetings. It looks a blip kind of day which means the ratings have thrown up 4-5 very closely matched selections in most races making it sometimes difficult to select 2. Blip days can be very good and can be a little iffy, so warning today should be heeded and to keep stakes low and tread a little more carefully than perhaps usual. Have a stop loss strategy in place! Do not go chasing any losses. The season is long!!!!! Dont blow up the bank today!

Good morning! Yesterday was a rather funny old day! I spent over 2 ½ hours going over the results and cross checking the ratings and other information in respect of the winners and can only muse at the results – Our BBOTD was miles and I mean miles clear on every rating, official figure, RPR and looked at ease 2 out, but the winner kept finding more.  Anyway, Horse Racing isn’t an exact science and days like yesterday do occur, but it wasn’t down to “early season” form issues, it was more a freaky day and should be treated like that.

SAW suffered a losing day as well. Our first selection was travelling like the winner 2 out when he fell and Abi Scarlet and Chosen Milan were not “early season” runners but seasoned selections, both boasting strong form and rated as such. We were "that" close to a treble of winners in my view, only to come up short and empty handed.

Today sees Day 1 of the Craven Meeting and some very interesting new types out for the first time over a number of racing meetings. could be one of those days again!!!

Good morning! After a bit of a blip day on Saturday, we bounced back yesterday with some strong results. Today looks like early flat season carnage! Pontefract is a hugely tricky track - you need fast starters and you need to get to the bend in good shape or its good night vienna! Give the late and early season foals on show, I would personally give Ponty a watching brief. I am not even touching Pontefract today- if I get 6 from 6 then great, but it looks hugely tricky and there are lots of hidden horses which could be later season stars. Same applies to an extent at Windsor. Given it is early flat season, a watching brief today is advised. (If you can be disciplined not to bet that is!)

Good morning! A reasonable day yesterday  - Several winners across the meetings although perhaps it was a day where 2nd rated pipped a few 1st rated, however 1st rated selections still did well  - A nice touch with Riddlestown at 5/1 springs to mind.

Newbury looks extremely tricky. Lots of classic entry horses competing and regardless of ratings, it will be a matter of lets say "tactics" as to whether the "right" horse wins.

Another reasonable day for the Ratings overall. Plenty of winners throughout the day and none better than a nice 8/1 winner in the first race of the day.

Early season is always tricky with lots of unexposed sorts having been locked away, getting their first airing as a three or four year old. Sacred Art beat a Dante entry horse yesterday flying home from last to first at 10/1. Such significant improvement (the trainer was quoted as saying afterwards that he didn’t think he’d win that race) isn’t uncommon but this month to date, our strike rate across the racecards has been reasonable so with better conditions ahead and the horses settling in, we remain hopeful of another profitable flat season.

Good morning!

A slightly mixed day yesterday but its difficult to legislate against 100/1 winners. It was quite astonishing to see quite a few superior horses on form/RPRs etc perform so poorly. Let’s hope for the connections sakes it was down to the early season. I expect fully a number of the horses that ran flat to pop up over the course of the season and vindicate their rating.

Another rip roaring first hour or so for the Ratings for those applying such strategy and then a few more winners found throughout the day. SAW picked up 1 winner though 2 very unlucky 2nds. The Each Way Thief Trial Service also picked up a 5/1 winner with Tobacco Road.

I hope members heeded my warning about live betting makets and changeable goings which was proven in my example given in the 5.00 at Kelso with the 2nd rated selection heavily backed into odds on and duly obliging, with My Flora finishing tailed off 3rd. It was all to do with the going and proves that you as members need to consider these variables when deciding which selection to back. I sadly dont have the luxury of seeing the betting patterns and nor can i change the selections in the advent of going changes. The Live betting market is your friend on these occasions.

Good morning! Yesterday was just one of those days whereupon nearly every horse selected ran into a place or better still, a winner. Ode for every day to be like that. It was a great day for the Service overall. We had winner after winner across most of the afternoon and evenings meetings. The BBOTD and Williams NAP won.

SAW members loyalty and patience was rewarded with a 3 from 3 which went some way to restoring bruised betting banks.

Whilst I can only dream of such days being the norm, sadly racing such as it is, has a funny way of bringing you crashing back down to earth, and I’ve been around this game long enough to know how cruel it can be. So whilst yesterday was good, please don’t change your staking plans, your discipline and stick to your game plan.
