I should learn to trust my own brain!!
The old adage ” Never trust anything with less than four legs” was seen to perfection this weekend.
Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham. In no particular order, except that I am an Arsenal supporter.
Whilst I would congratulate Middlesbrough, Bournemouth and Southampton on their sterling efforts, they should never have lived with their richer and more illustrious opponents.
Thereby hangs the problem. Too much money in the upper reaches of the game these days. Would you overstretch yourself if you knew you would still get paid your £100,000 each week whether you did or not??
Johnny Haynes has a lot to answer for. (If you don’t know, look him up)
In the days of Matthews, Mortenson and the 1953 FA Cup Final to beat any other EVER, footballers played for the love of the game.
Anyway don’t mind my ranting, the long and short of it all is that I have given up any betting on human ‘athletes’.
Sticking to Horses and, in fact, just my Place System.
I think a million pounds per year should be enough for me, don’t you?Ian BassMemberYou are quite correct, Pippin 2.5% of bank times 1.06 to allow for commission then divide by price (-1, of course)
First one already in today. Job Done!Ian BassMemberToday my place system goes to Doncaster.
My selections are:
1.35 Laurence
2.05 Nuclear Power
2.40 Robot Boy
3.15 To Be Wild
3.50 Sir Dancealot
4.25 Imperial State
5.00 Masham Star
5.35 Fannan
Only one placed horse from this lot for my target to be reached.
Yesterday, my first bet was £8.52 on Ridestan @ 2.60 and to recover stakes and losses I had to bet £24.11 on Valhalla @ 1.94.
Not a system for the faint-hearted!!Ian BassMemberThe selections I shall be using for my Place system are at Cheltenham (missing out first race)
2.45 Ridestan
3.20 Valhalla
3.55 Heron Heights
4.30 Casper King
5.05 Cecil Corbett
5.40 Cyrius MoriviereHopefully I won’t have to go too far down this list before I get a winning place
Ian BassMemberHi, James
Maybe you picked a poor day, I have not yet had a losing day since I started.
19th (Wed), as I said in an earlier post, I spent the whole day at the hospital so didn’t even look at the horses.
But 18th Hahnenkam was placed in 1st race at Exeter, and yesterday Jazzy was placed in 1st race at Ludlow so neither day went even to second race.
Will publish my selections later, if I possibly can, and you will be able to follow my thoughts.
I will only back one selection in a race. If both Matt’s selections fall within the 1.6 – 4.0 Place range (I use Betfair ‘Place’ price not 4 places or 2 places) I would normally take the price nearest to 1.6, although I do also look at matched ratings or Timeform Ratings if I am at all uncertain.
Will post laterIan BassMemberHi James
Sorry for delay. At hospital today.
I select my horses for place betting from Matt’s 2 selected, allowing for place odds always being between 1.60 and 4.00.
Hope this helps. Am not playing today, obviously, but will be back ‘at the bookies’ tomorrowIan
Ian BassMemberHi, Ray
If you look on Header bar, next to ‘Forum’ and scroll down to July 19th 2013 you will find Johnye Bravo’s original posting.
Also , within ‘Forum’ I posted my update under ‘Place betting showing signs’And, Pippin, sorry for misleading you. I should have said ‘after 2-3 LOSERS.
The first selection is easy, just your target times 1.06 divided by place price.
But after loser, you are chasing losses and it soon becomes expensive.
You add losses to original target, then multiply total by 1.06 and divide by place price
I had over £80 on Journey to get a place recently and, for a change, Frankie did me a great favour by winning.
The longest losing run has been 3 and I have recovered during same day.
Never had to go to bed regretting not stopping with a smaller loss!Ian BassMemberHi, I am just visiting yo let you know the progress of Johnnye Bravo Place system
It promised that bank would double every month ….and it has!!
I starte small on 18th August with bank of £120.00
At end of play 17th September bank stood at £260.33
At end of play today (17th October) bank stands at £489.39Not a losing day in 2 months
Check it ou!
Squeaky-bum time occasionally with big odds being placed following 2-3 winners, but it hasn’t let me downIan
Ian BassMemberToo many cooks etc..
So many different ratings, selections opinions.
I will return to my old Racing Post/Timeform selections. Thanks for what WAS helpful but has become most UNHEPFUL.
May see you around at some time in the future

So sorry we cant include Poet’s Society in our records!!!Ian BassMemberLatest from 10-bet acca
Bet 6 £141.11 on Almere City v Maastricht over 2.5 goals @ 1.571
Holland 19.00 ko
I have staked £100 @ 1.60 Bet365Ian BassMemberLike you, Jacqueline, I won default’.
Got called away to see to my disabled wife and didn’t cancel Poet’s Society.
As my stake these days is over £13, I picked up a sweet little £355, after deducting loss on Evergate.
Very much appreciated as earlier today my wife’s visiting optician charged us £240 to get new glasses for her.Ian BassMemberApparently, they do “often” get a successful accumulator, but in the 3 months I have been with them 7 has been the best so far. I take out a proportion of my winnings after each winning bet so that by the 5th win I have recovered my complete stake and am playing with winnings only.
Ian BassMemberAlan,
The website is footballacca.co.uk.
Subscription is £9.99 for a whole year.
They run a 10-bet acca, (which I have not succeeded in taking the whole way, but nice little earner if taking out a little bit for the back pocket at regular interval intervals!) which aims to make £1000 from a £20 start.
Also gives Quick Tips which also shows a small profit.
Try it, you may be pleased you did. -
