Many punters like to avoid favourites in horse racing and always look to find some value. This can be a decent strategy of course, but you need to do plenty of research when trying to find a solid each-way bet.
It is hard to find big priced winners though, as often horses are not seen to have a good chance in the betting, or they’re taking part in a seriously competitive race where it could be something like 7/1 the field.
Take a look at the card below from a recent race at Plumpton:
Now, at first glance many would immediately discount the Top Rated horse Bold Runner, as at 25/1, it's the rank outsider in the field, which has a couple of short priced favourites.
But wait - it's top rated for a reason.. and at 25/1 it's worthy of either a little e/w play, or a simple "place only" bet. Sure enough, Bold Runner ended up nabbing second place, and a tasty 25/1 place win (around 6/1 in the "place only" market!) - Opportunities like this are there to be found on a daily basis. The data is all there - you just need to know what you're looking for!
