30th November

I think Becky the Thatcher winning at 33/1 (2nd rated in the 2.30) highlights the benefit of backing both whether Dutching or level staking them if odds allow! Several members did just that as my inbox can testify! Ok, not our greatest day results wise, but overall it was better than my warning suggested, so I was pleased we still managed to grab a few decent winners.

Royal Ascot specials: Top trainer and Jockey markets

It's the eve of Royal Ascot, so lets run the rule over the top trainers' and jockeys' markets.

Aidan O'Brien (best price 1-4)

It was a lucky seventh trainers' title for Aidan O'Brien at Royal Ascot last year and the betting suggests his rivals will be the unlucky ones once again.

He's long odds-on for a Qipco-sponsored award he took for the first time in 2001 and has his usual strong team at a meeting where last year's …Read More

French Champion Hurdle glory for L’ami Serge

British raider L'Ami Serge turned around his recent defeat by Shaneshill in France to record the biggest win of his career when he landed the Grade 1 Grande Course de Haies d'Auteuil.
Stepping up to a distance he had never tackled before, Nicky Henderson's runner was given a brilliant waiting ride by Daryl Jacob to take the prestigious prize from the wayward Alex De Larredya.
L'Ami Serge had won the Select Hurdle at Sandown on Jumps Finale …Read More

Five things we learned from the weekend

St Nicholas Abbey the second

Highland Reel does not get the credit he deserves. He has snuck under the radar a little bit but Friday's Coronation Cup was his fifth Group 1. He raced nine times last year, eight of which were at the highest level. He's danced every dance, goes from the front, wears his enormous heart on his sleeve and mines every ounce of himself.
He has raced 22 times, with eight wins, six seconds …Read More

Each-way and Place Value

Many punters like to avoid favourites in horse racing and always look to find some value. This can be a decent strategy of course, but you need to do plenty of research when trying to find a solid each-way bet.

It is hard to find big priced winners though, as often horses are not seen to have a good chance in the betting, or they’re taking part in a seriously competitive race where it could be …Read More

Recovery staking – a different take !

If you find a system or betting method that doesn’t win every time but doesn’t often have long losing runs, you may be keen to use a recovery staking plan that involves increasing your stakes to recover all losses.
You may also want to take yourself down to the doctors at the same time and get your head checked out because as great as it sounds, a recovery staking plan will end up being the nail …Read More

Probability and Horses!

The easiest way to explain probability is to use the coin example, an unbiased coin tossed fairly onto a flat open surface provides 2 possibilities Heads 50% Tails 50%. Tossing a coin 100 times may give a variance of 5 to 10% because of the small sample but as you carry on flipping the coin, the percentages will converge nearer to their true probability.

The same can be said for a 6 sided die, the odds …Read More

Place betting on the Exchanges

Place Bets (Betfair) – In Betfair the place market is different, you bet for your horse to finish in a place position (See previous table). It differs to betting each way in that it is a single place bet only, betting for your horse to finish in a place position. There is no “win” part of the bet which would lose if your horse came 2nd. With Betfair if your horses comes first you …Read More

How to keep your Bookie accounts Open

The first time it happens you feel proud. You think of it as a badge of honor. The second time it happens you laugh about. The third time and all the times after that, it’s just annoying.

Of course I am talking about betting account restrictions. Have you ever had a betting account completely shut down or had the amount you can stake on a selection severely limited?

This is no big deal when it’s just one …Read More
