Good morning!
Day 2 of the Epsom Festival and were a little unlucky with our first rated in the Oaks yesterday as watching the race back several times, I think he was produced slightly too early which ultimately led to him getting shot down late. His trainer was adamant that he is the better horse of the two in the yard and remains confident he will be a Group 1. Still, there is plenty of racing throughout the Country today. Its a busy one.
To all those recently joined, please read my previous comments/posts about how to use this Service. Please don't rush in and bet on every race. Try to be disciplined and patient. Paper trial a few selections and ask in the Forum for assistance. There is plenty of information on there now. Good luck and enjoy your day!

Racing Posts comment: Free Spin, back down in trip, travelled well but just found the winner too strong close home. His sole win had been on the Polytrack at Dundalk but this was only his third start on turf and he is open to some improvement on this surface.

WELL ACQUAINTED had finished behind a couple of these in the Free handicap on his return and his ability to handle this sort of ground was unproven, but course form came to the fore once again as his one win as a 2yo came over this C&D. Always tracking the runner-up, and clear of the others, it took him plenty of time to wear down his rival, but replacement rider Ryan Moore convinced him to put his best foot forward and the combination stamped their authority on the contest in the latter stages. He shapes as though he would get another furlong.

Good morning. I hope you have read my posts on the Forum. Please tread carefully today. Notwithstanding the trappy races today, the weather could be hugely influential and scupper many a selection. Please heed my warning. I appreciate we've had several really good days recently and hopefully most of you have a decent betting bank and are jsut itching to swell it some more. However, today could be a day where you give it all back, so whilst I am putting up the Ratings, I am warning you not to bet blind and to watch the market for drifters and those steamed into especially if there has been a ground change. We wont know how the ground is riding until after the first race - I dont have the luxury of that information before posting the Ratings. I have done so much extra research over night and this morning to try and factor this in, but go steady. I will be disappointed to read grumbles on the forum if we do happen to have a lean day after me going to this length to warn you.

BBOTD - Is proving tricky with the possible change in ground, so picking one where the ground isnt likely to change has proven difficult. However I think
6.15 Muss - RAYADOUR 7/4 - 2/1 has a good chance and should finish ahead of titus bolt who struggled to finish in a 1m 4f race previously so upped another furlong today should mean the selection finishes ahead of him BUT he does rate as the main danger. The selection is 2lb well in, 3rd run of the season so hopefully wont be affected by the "bounce" theory.

The Racing Post Comment: LUCI DI MEZZANOTTE hails from a successful family her trainer Oliver Sherwood knows well, and showed improved form on her third bumper start on quick ground at Taunton three weeks beforehand. She had to dig deep to get off the mark over hurdles at the first time of asking here, but was well on top at the finish, and she looks the type to continue improving as she steps up in trip.

All the Value bets didn't run to their form/rating. I was disappointed with Postscript in particular given his rating in my system was very high and almost made him the 1st rated. However Mont Ras did the business for us in that race coming 1st at 6/1 SP, but I would hope most got 10/1 as it was around that price for a while after posting the selections.

Good morning! The Ratings produced some decent winners yesterday and whilst the recommendation is you paper trial the Bet of the Day and Hot Picks, we had a really decent return on the Outsider bets of the day with a winner at 15/2 (or better) and a close second at 8/1 which produced a healthy return backed at win/place/ew doubles.

A little unlucky with the Outsiders today. Both traveled for long way strongly with Inside Knowledge probably the best just finishing 2 lengths from 3rd and only 2 1/2 length from the winner.
*******Please, if you are considering betting these go carefully. These are not as strong as yesterdays selections but both come high on the ratings and could run big races at decent prices and clearly if they do, it could be at the expense of the Rated selections in the corresponding races. Hence, why I am suggesting a note of caution. Similar view could be taken with 8.50 Worc - ZELOS DIKATOR (20/1) ran well for a long way finishing 5th at 33/1 - a decent effort and 8.00 Kemp - FLYING TEMPO. another decent effort. Finishing 5th but less than 3 lengths from the winner. (14/1)

Got to beat the favourite Highly Likey but his best form is on Polytrack and is up 3lb and turf form not as consistent. Steely is also a danger as is Foxhaven, but selection is on same mark as he was in a staying on 4th beaten less than a length last time out. Good luck, but remember warning and perhaps paper trial it until the end of the week.

BBOTD - At the time I was finalising it the price was 13/8 but it is now 8/11. I will include it here as it was the BBOTD even though the price now is very short. Back it or not the selection is: 4.30 Newcastle - MEAN IT 8/11 BOG (it may drift back to evens)
Sadly yet again the BBOTD ran poorly. When advised it was being heavily backed starting at 13/8 and being backed at the off at 2/7 - it was hampered in the run in but I'm not sure if it was ever going to win. Another poor effort from a horse who however you cut it, should have won on the bridle.

Came third in a 15 runner maiden at Bath where winner of that has come out and won again at York. Second and fourth have also won next time out franking the form. I appeciate this is a maiden and we could bump into another good thing, but its difficult to ignore such good form lines which tie in with ground and distance. Fingers crossed!
Well what can I say? I don't know what happened - The selection came plumb last under a nothing ride and yet again the 2nd rated selection wins the race at 8/1
OUTSIDER OF THE DAY - 5.00 SOUTHWELL - SOFIA'S NUMBER ONE 6/1 Generally. WON!
In cracking form and although up another 4lbs for recent success, at 6/1 its decent value for a horse that is bang there and also has great form over CD. Pats Legacy clearly 1st pick and there are a number of dangers, but price and level of consistency make this selection OOTD and should go close.
Really happy that our Outsider of the Day won again and at 6/1 (11/2 SP) Really strong ride and won with something in hand. After this won so well, I was even more disappointed that our BBOTD led up to his name and capitulated coming last.

Another disappointing effort from the selection which continued to receive support throughout the day but in the end the 151 day absence may have been his downfall as when asked to go win the race (he traveled strongly throughout) he failed to respond and carried on one paced. He may be all the better for the run and one to keep a note of next time out. Our other selection in the race was eased after becoming lame so again another which could have strong claims next time.

(1) OUTSIDER OF THE DAY: 2.30 Market Rasen - TRACKING TIME 12/1 3rd (10/1 SP) - RP comment:
Tracking Time often shaped like a winner waiting to happen at this sort of level in bumpers and novice company. This switch to a handicap was another encouraging effort, but he very likely wants a stiffer test.
(2) OUTSIDER OF THE DAY: 3,20 Stratford - PACHA DU POLDER 8/1 Finished 6th. (13/2 SP) - Traveled very strongly and set a very good pace but as the Race entered the final few furlongs he dropped away tamely and was very disappointing given his good rating score.

BBOTD: 3.15 NEWBURY - HILLSTAR 1/1 Generally - 2nd. In my opinion the riding tactics were wrong and he led from the start and was then vulnerable to those in the chasing pack. He only lost by 1/2 length to 25/1 High Troja. Both had previously lost to Soviet Rock but on bare form, Hillstar should always beat High Troja - at 25/1 it was clear the market also thought that and as I say, losing by 1/2 length (2 lengths back to 3rd place SPILLWAY) gives credence to my view that he was ridden incorrectly.
OUTSIDER OF THE DAY - 2.15 THIRSK - VENTURA MIST 7/1 - WON a thrilling race by a nose - Highly accomplished ride (if any of you saw it) and gave the Horse every chance to win it. Whilst clearly disappointed the BBOTD lost by 1/2 length it was great seeing the Outsider of the Day do the business.

Racing Post Comment: The 60-rated JORDAURA had won a handicap off a mark of 76 in the past but that was in 2009 and his last win had come in October off 63. He hadn´t shown much in between but dropped into claiming company, he was held up and patiently ridden. Having travelled really well, came through smoothly and scored under a hands and heels ride. He had not won over this trip before, but saw it out really well.
Well-backed and proven of stamina at distances of up to 2m, Activate was sent to the front early on his debut in claiming company, but simply had no answer to the winner. There looked to be no obvious excuses.

It was as predicted with the weather playing its part in a very difficult day. I hope you heeded my warning. Uttoxeter went from good to good to soft, to soft to Heavy all in the space of a few hours. York and other courses also experienced inclement weather and that continued with the evening meeting with Bath being dry but the damage was done during the afternoon.
Good morning! Once again we are blighted by the weather. Changing conditions under foot with lots of rain falling over night and continuing to fall this morning. York have already changed their official going and it may get even softer. A nightmare for me really as I try to go through the races and calculate the Ratings. Please heed my warning today and tread carefully. This isnt a day to steam into the Ratings or BBOTD/HOT PICKS.
If this wasnt a subscription site, I may well have suggested a NON BETTING day and refused to put up any selections, but I appreciate your support and hence The Ratings are being publsihed but with a huge Government Health warning!
